The purpose of this report is to share strategies, examples, and resources to assist state and local leaders in coordinating funds to more efficiently use available resources to provide quality services to young children and families. Coordinating funds (the umbrella term for blending, braiding, and layering) can help state and local leaders achieve greater efficiencies with available funds. State or local leaders may also want to maximize different funding streams that have similar eligibility requirements or intended uses. In strategic financing, blending, braiding, and layering are strategies that can be used to reduce administrative inefficiencies and leverage additional funds to serve more children or families.
