This publication is part of CSCCE’s Student Paper Series and was produced in conjunction with the UC Berkeley Labor Center by students in the course Challenges and Innovations in Labor Policy, offered through the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. Using case studies from California and New Mexico, law students Dalton A. Valerio and Sam Goity explore possibilities for states interested in entering into bargaining relationships with representative entities for the early care and education workforce; present successful strategies for organizing the workforce; and offer guidance for worker advocacy groups and individuals seeking to improve conditions in the ECE sector.
