This report is part of a series on the challenges child care teachers face when working towards new early educator certification. It focuses on Louisiana’s Early Childhood Ancillary Certificate (ECAC), a credential introduced by the Louisiana Department of Education (LDOE) in 2014. LDOE offered scholarships to teachers working at publicly funded child care centers, making the ECAC free to teachers. In addition, all teachers who earned the credential and continued to work in a publicly funded child care center were eligible for a tax credit, creating a financial incentive. Nevertheless, many teachers who started working towards the ECAC failed to earn the credential. (author abstract)
