A snapshot of ECE apprenticeship programs

Description:

Beginning in September 2021, Bank Street College’s Learning Starts at Birth initiative (LSAB) designed a Community of Practice (CoP) for administrators of early educator apprentice programs. The CoP met to discuss challenges and opportunities they face in offering quality programming that attracts, retains, and prepares apprentices to lead fulfilling careers in early education. At the same time, and through the CoP, LSAB continued its efforts to further explore questions connected to Bank Street’s renowned approach to educator preparation and adult learning. These questions include: 1. How do apprentice programs deliver quality mentoring and/or coaching support? 2. How are recruitment and retention practices, wraparound supports, and accessibility of programs reaching a diverse set of early childhood educators? (author abstract)
