A comprehensive study of the early nonparental child care and education that children receive before entering school, with particular attention to: the type and amount of child care that children received; child care quality; the way in which child and family characteristics influenced child care selection; the way in which information about child care arrangements, particularly child care costs, indicated child care quality; and the way in which child care experiences influenced school failure.
