A summary of findings from an investigation of the influence of mentoring programs sponsored by the United States Department of Education's Student Mentoring Program initiative on students' interpersonal relationships, engagement, and risky behaviors, based on data from two cohorts of students--1,272 of whom were randomly assigned to receive mentoring services and 1,301 who did not--from 255 mentoring programs during the 2005-2006 and 2006-2007 school year
