Teacher training in support of early childhood education in Pakistan: A case study of the Teachers' Resource Centre

Description:
This technical paper presents a case study of the Teachers' Resource Centre (TRC), an independent, non-governmental organization created in 1986 by a small group of Karachi-based private school heads and teachers concerned by falling standards in education. As a starting point to improve quality, they decided to concentrate on nurturing the confidence, well-being and professional development of teachers, while at the same time changing teachers' perceptions of the learning process. To this end, the TRC worked in consultation with school heads, teachers and parents to build an in-service teacher training process that would provide a support framework and stimulate a cultural shift among teachers immersed in traditional teaching approaches.
