Description:
In May 2010 during Year 2 of the evaluation of Quality Counts, FPG Child Development Institute at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill conducted four focus groups (three in English, one in Spanish) with child care directors and family child care providers whose programs were participating in Quality Counts. The Year 2 focus group interview guide and protocol were revised based on data from the previous year's focus groups as well as input from The Children's Trust. The project's on-site coordinator organized and led the focus groups, and transcriptions were completed by a Spanish-English bilingual FPG employee. The purpose of the focus groups was to gather center directors' and family child care providers' perceptions of Quality Counts, including their views on quality definitions, supports, the renewal process, and overall satisfaction with the system. Opinions regarding what could be changed to better serve child care programs were also solicited. This report summarizes findings of the Year 2 focus groups and also compares Year 1 and Year 2 findings to explore similarities and differences in views between the two cohorts. (author abstract)
