Preparing teachers for infant care and education

Description:
This chapter begins with a brief synthesis of what we know from interdisciplinary research about the unique characteristics of infants as learners and a review of the most agreed-upon essential components of high-quality infant care and education. Promising practices, enduring questions, and continuing challenges for the field are explored with particular regard to the role of early childhood teacher education in preparing exemplary practitioners for work with infants and families.
