Citing multiple studies and sources of data, this brief compiles research on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in early childhood and on the STEM skills gap in Pennsylvania. Identifying the current and future need for a STEM skilled workforce in the private sector and the military, it presents an argument for increased investment in high-quality prekindergarten programs that teach STEM skills in the state. Specific attention is paid to the importance of access to high-quality programs for disadvantaged children.
