Identifying and assessing young dual language learners

Description:

This webinar addresses the need for identifying children who are dual language learners as early as possible, clarifying the differences between screening and assessment. Four states have existing policies related to identifying dual language learners prior to kindergarten: Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Texas. These policies are presented and compared. In addition, concerns about and recommendations for the use of Home Language Surveys are discussed, along with the use of both standardized and non-standardized language proficiency assessments for young dual language learners.
