Examining the child care cliff effect in a rural setting

Description:
The purpose of this study was to better understand the experience of families in one California County accessing low-income child care support. It is a replication of a previous study, and demonstrates similar results (Roll & East, 2014). Quantitative results show that 41 (35%) of families reported facing the child care cliff. A thematic analysis of qualitative interviews with a subset of these families revealed several common themes. These themes were consistent with the existing literature on families accessing support for child care, including struggling with basic needs and administrative hassles. Unique to this study were issues for families with multiple health problems and transportation challenges. (author abstract)
