The purpose of this report is to direct attention to the issues related to childhood in rural Virginia, as rural localities present a unique set of challenges for young children and families. In the sections that follow, we present an overview of relevant research as it applies to families residing in rural localities to situate implications for policy aimed at supporting needs throughout rural Virginia.
