Fostering racial literacy in early childhood contexts

Description:

In this paper, our purpose is to provide early childhood educators with guidance in fostering young children’s racial literacy. Towards this end, we first discuss the current educational context with respect to race and instruction in schools within the United States. Next, we examine considerations related to fostering racial literacy in early childhood classrooms. Lastly, we provide guidelines and practical examples to help early childhood teachers establish instructional contexts that create space for racial literacy development. (author abstract)
