This brief discusses the role of science and mathematics education in early learning and later academic achievement, along with Massachusetts' efforts to integrate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) subjects into its early learning standards and curriculum. Recommendations encourage continued investment in professional development to support educators' integration of STEM subjects into their classrooms.
